At the Rock we pride ourselves on being a dynamic and inclusive team, committed to the best outcomes for young people and working within best practice.

All the Rock youth work team are subject to Enhanced DBS clearance.

All the Rock lead youth workers are qualified to level 3 and above, with 5 of our 7 employees being (JNC) Nationally Qualified Youth Workers.
Our team is led by our Operations Director who is also a Qualified Teacher and has an MA in Community Education.
We have a focus on CPD meaning that 3 of our present employed team have been supported from volunteering to achieve youth work qualification and become members of our employed team.

 

Andy Macauly – Operations Director

Andy was a part in running the first ever work with a school the rock ever did. He has supported AMand dedicated himself to seeing the rock flourish, as he works to take up great opportunities to work with young people and inspire them to aspire and achieve within their lives. Andy takes care of the running of the rock which includes a lot of behind the scenes work, but is also very much involved in supporting young people and working with schools to ensure the positive development of young people.

About me:I love seeing people work well together in teams. I am a keen runner, football coach and Frisbee player.I’m part of the leadership of Celebrate at St Mary’s Prestbury.I’ve been involved in youth work in the area for years and it’s great to see young people becoming the best they can be.

 

Chris Slack – Community Youth Co-ordinator

P1000722Chris has been around youth work for a long time and has a vast experience of settings and contexts, he joined our team back in 2014 to develop and run all of our youth work in the evenings and holiday projects. He is committed to building relationships and supporting young people within the community. He also supports lots our school work engaging with a large number of young people across lots of communities and schools.                                                                                         About me: I am a passionate basketballer, husband, and enjoy hanging out with good mates and eating!

 

Denise Thornton – Youth & Re:engament Worker

dee pic for websiteDee is a recent graduate of the university of Gloucestershire youth work course, and has been around at the rock for long time, Dee works during the day to support young people to re:engage in school and inspire them to achieve.  Dee has been supporting young people with school for a long time and has lots of success stories to tell.

About me: I enjoy spending time with my family and playing league netball for Cheltenham Ladies. I also enjoy creative art the messier the better.

 

 

Sharon Macauly – Project Administrator

SharonSharon is our dedicated administrator who works tirelessly to help the rock run smoothly in the background. Sharon has been involved or been around the rock since the very start in various different roles, so has a very full knowledge of The Rock! Sharon is also a qualified youth worker and enjoys being involved in the lives of the young people we have at the rock, as well as helping with support of school sessions where needed.

About Me: i enjoy walking and outside activities, the beach, being creative and hanging out with good friends and my family.

Ali joined the staff team after volunteering for a number of years with The Rock. Ali is our volunteer champion,
meaning she takes care of all our great volunteers and as once a volunteer herself has great knowledge in being a volunteer. Ali also supports in the running of our two evening youth clubs; space 51 & tnt and runs our community cafe in partnership with the big local.

About me: I love spending time with my family, running (usually after them!), baking and eating cake (mad Bake-off fan; esp’ after meeting Paul Hollywood!), gardening and reading psychological thrillers.   

 

 

Jay Gregory Youth WorkerJay Gregory – Bike Development Worker

Jay was a dedicated volunteer for a number of years at the rock, before joining our staff team. A testament to Jay’s hard work and commitment is that he won GAVCA’s Gloucestershire’s Volunteer of the Year 2014. He has high skills and interest in bike & motorbike maintenance and has supported our Scoot & Skate project since its start back in 2010. Jay works Full time supporting young people in re:engagement back into school and supporting them to learn practically, He also now jointly runs our evening skate park night (SAS) and develops both Mountain Bike and skate park projects. 

About me: i am a keen motorcyclist, mountain biker and ex bmxer, i am learning to play the guitar and love metal music and my wife.

 

Sue Potter – Fundraising Assistant

I started by volunteering at The Rock for Scoot and Skate back in the early days.  I’ve helped out several times since before formally joining the team.  My official role is as fundraising assistant but I’m happy to help out where needed.  I love working with the team at The Rock.
About me: I’m a member of St Mark Church where I work with primary school children – and occasionally help out with weddings.  I like reading, sewing, walking and skiing.
