Volunteers are a big part of making The Rock a success, without people giving tirelessly their time and energy to the things we do The Rock would not be able to run. If you would like to consider joining The Rock team please see below the groups and opportunities available;
Our daytime work (Monday – Friday) is with a number of difference agencies and education providers, who work with young people aged 9 upwards. This work includes a range of activities from sports, art and crafts to media workshops. All of our volunteers are a big part of supporting each tailored project. A typical day is split into two sessions, starting from 08:45 and running to 14:45.
Space 51 is for young people in school years 9, 10 and 11, who are making tough decisions with their G.C.S.E choices and future plans. The evening is shaped and created by the young people. Activities could include music, cookery, drama, dancing, film nights, console games, sports and much more.
Doors open at 7.00-8.30pm
Tuesday Night Transition (TNT) is for young people (school years 6-8) preparing to leave Primary School and settle into High School life. These evenings have been a great success with the young people voting on which activities take place e.g. girls and guys nights when the group separates into the two buildings and enjoy time out in a same gender group.
Door open at 6.00-7.30pm
On a Wednesday evening, we have our Archery club for school years 6-13, offering the opportunity to learn new skills with our qualified Archery coaches. Sessions run from 6pm-8pm.
On a Thursday evening, our sports hall is transformed into an indoor skatepark. Scoot And Skate (SAS) opens its doors to young people with their scooters/skateboards, who want to learn how to use the ramps and also build up their skills. The Rock volunteers not only encourage young people using the ramps, but also help out in the kitchen and provide support in our chill out room.
Doors open: 6.00pm – 7.30pm
Community Cafe/ Cooking Club
During the summer holidays, The Rock runs its holiday summer project, Activate for young people for school years 5+; offering young people opportunities to try a variety of activities including, multi-sports, cooking, Art, mountain biking and day trips. We are looking for volunteers who can support these sessions. If you enjoy active sports, love to bake or are creative then this could be for you!
Holiday Lunch Club
The Rock’s Holiday Lunch Club runs in the school holidays offering a FREE hot lunch and FREE play activities for primary school aged children. We are looking for volunteers to help run and support this project. Whether you’re a whizz at peeling spuds or an ace at art & craft then there’s a role for you.
People make The Rock – nothing would be possible without our volunteers. If you are interested in joining our team, contact Community Champion Joe via email@example.com or call 01242 700700. We would love to hear from you.
All our volunteers will require a DBS check as part of our recruitment process and receive ongoing training and support.
A BIG thank you to those who are already volunteering and those who have been a part of The Rock family.
