The Rock and The Big Local have partnered together to offer communities St Peter’s & The Moors an after-school community cafe on Mondays during term time, 3:15 pm – 4:45 pm. The cafe is served by a team of volunteers, youth workers & young people; offering work experience and developing confidence for future employment. The cafe includes high chair facilities, children’s play area, baby change and other activities.
The Rock’s long-term vision is to re-develop the inside of St Peters Church (part of The Rock’s facilities) into “St Peters Centre” – giving young people the opportunity to have hands-on work experience, gaining accredited qualifications and skills to improve employability, whilst the local community and businesses benefit from having an affordable Community Cafe on their doorstep, meeting room space and access to more activities.
This year we have trialled a Cooking Club at the Community Cafe. Due to its success, we will be continuing this project for the rest of the academic year. The Cooking Club is open to primary school aged children and their families giving opportunities to learn new skills in cooking and nutrition and enjoy other play activities. So far we have made:- pancakes, muffins, stir-fry, pizza and Easter biscuits.
